In today's episode, discover how to master the high notes using one specific vocal technique. Here we go!

Aspiring singers often long to hit those soaring high notes effortlessly and confidently.

To begin with, many beginner singers tend to exert excessive effort or strain their voices while attempting to reach high notes. Consequently, there is a tendency for the voice to crack, transitioning into a faint head voice or a breathy sound.

Another common mistake beginners make is neglecting to invest time and dedication into developing a mixed voice. The key concept here is to maintain a solid commitment to the process.

While it may seem daunting, the truth is that with the correct vocal technique, anyone can develop the ability to sing high notes effortlessly.

In this blog, we will explore proven vocal techniques that will help you unlock your true potential and enable you to reach those high notes effortlessly.

What Trained Singers Do

Trained singers genuinely experience freedom in their vocals. Their voices also remain healthy, with no more hoarseness to worry about. It's common for some singers to mistakenly believe that feeling hoarseness after singing for a few hours is typical. But let me tell you, that couldn't be further from the truth! Feeling hoarseness is not expected at all, and you shouldn't have to experience it.

Trained singers certainly don't encounter that issue. That's precisely why we aim to move into the world of trained singers, where vocal health and freedom reign. And remember, we base our approach on the four pillars of the "Sing Your (Self) to Freedom" Formula.

Let's review the Four Pillars of the Sing Yourself To Freedom Formula:

1. Mindset

2. Vocal technique

3. Connection

4. Creativity

This week, we'll discuss the vocal technique pillar. Now, to achieve the ability to sing high notes effortlessly, you need to recognize whether you are a chest or head voice singer

When we sing in the chest voice, the chest voice muscle (thyroarytenoid muscle) comes into play. On the other hand, when we sing in the head voice, we activate our head voice muscle (cricothyroid muscle). But the magic unfolds here: when we can successfully blend these two!

Let's try an exercise together.

Give a loud "Ma" using your chest voice repeatedly, and feel the vibrations in your chest.

Let's switch to a dramatic "Woohoo" using your head voice. Your head voice may not sound exactly how you'd like it to, and that's okay. With more practice, your head voice muscle will strengthen, resulting in a louder, more precise, and more powerful voice sound.

Now, let's challenge ourselves by switching back and forth between the head and chest voice. This exercise might feel challenging, but it's incredibly effective. This exercise is where the magic happens! It's the sweet spot where the blend between the head and chest voice occurs.

Make this exercise a part of your daily routine. The more frequently you practice, the better your vocal muscles retain the technique. So let's embrace the journey and let those vocal muscles remember and grow stronger with each session!
